Locarno Treaty

The Locarno Treaties were seven agreements negotiated at Locarno, Switzerland, on 5-16 of October 1925 and formally signed in London on 1 December. The Western European Allied powers and the new states of Central and Eastern Europe sought to secure the post-war territorial settlement. The signings of the treaty were exchanged in Geneva on 14 September 1926 and were put to work straight away. The treaties were immediately put to into the League of Nations
The idea of these treaties arose from the British Empire, France and germany during 1925.  Later into the discussions German foreign minister Gustav Stresemann did a proposal for a reciprocal of his country’s western frontiers.
The Locarno Treaties were was known as the “keystone” of the improved western European diplomatic climate of 1924-1930. Adding hope for the people as international peace, also known as the “spirit of Locarno”. This was seen in Germany’s admission to the League of Nations. The international organization established under the Versailles treaty to promote world peace. The principal treaty concluded at Loacrno was the "Rhineland Pact" between Germany, France, Belgium, The United Kingdom and Italy. This meant maintaining a demilitarised zone in the Rhineland section of Germany. Under this compact, Germany France, and Germany and Belgium, agreed not to "attack or invade each other or start any source of war towards another but supplementary clauses justified the use of force in self-defence. The first three signatories undertook not to attack each other, with the latter two acting as guarantors in the event of aggression by any of` the first three states against another, all other parties were to assist the country under attack.
This picture below tells us how America was known as the keystone, as they were the main country to play part in the Locarno treaty and for any of it to work, they were the ones to connect everyone together.

The entire point of the Locarno treaty in the people's eyes was that this would be hope for permanent world peace throughout Europe. However, Germany began to remilitarise the Rhineland after Adolf Hitler come to power back in 1933. In 1936 Hitler sent German forces to the Rhineland and denounced the Locarno treaties. Britain and France did protest against Germany's actions but did not counter them.
Everyone who was part or has been affected by the treaty would of all been on the same page as the treaty was just beginning as everyone believed that this was the start of a new era or peace as we have seen in one of Gustav Stresemann's speeches as he stats "Because we live in belief that only by peaceful cooperation of states and peoples can that development be secured". By stating this Stresemann is applying that the only way for a peaceful cooperation of states is for this treaty to take place and to dispose of military weapons.
In this picture below we can see that the english prime minister and mussolini were both fully contributing towards the treaty and agreed to every details that was placed onto the treaty. But with the boxing glove placed behind the french prime ministers back we can see that they have agreed to the treaty but they will be cautious and will be ready to betray if necessary.
